The Moderator Mindset
The Moderator defines the experience. SimONE is not a presentation, it is a guided clinical journey.
Key Principles
-
Be engaging and confident.
Master the controls in Sandbox Mode first so you can focus on the camera and the audience. Lead the clinical scenario with authority.
Example: “Welcome. Today, we are going to review a patient case and make clinical decisions together." -
Encourage participation
Invite voluntary contributions from the room without singling anyone out.
Example: "Looking at this patient profile, what stands out first?" -
Facilitate dialogue, not lectures
Turn monologues into discussions by asking open-ended questions that challenge the group.
Example: "Based on these symptoms, what clinical barriers might we face with this treatment?" -
Create anticipation before interactions
Build clinical suspense by intentionally pausing before revealing the next step or test result.
Example: "Before we move to the next screen, what lab results are we expecting to see?" -
Give participants time to think and respond
Embrace the silence by giving attendees quiet time to process the information before answering.
Example: "Let's take 30 seconds to review this; feel free to ask questions when ready."
Best Practices
- Avoid one-way talking
- Ask open questions
- Invite participants to read on-screen information
- Encourage them to explain their choices
- Reinforce that there are no wrong answers, only shared clinical practice
- Build momentum before launching interactions
- Ask if participants are ready before advancing
Virtual Session Navigation Tips
When leading virtual sessions, you shape the pace of the experience. Remember:
"Move All Forward": This action advances everyone's screen simultaneously. Always allow time for reflection before moving on.
"Move Back": This action moves the entire group back to the previous screen.
Important: Once you reach the Waiting Room, you cannot go back. Doing so will break the results interaction for the entire session.
